Startup Windows Faster
I've downloaded the trial version of this, and its really a nice little interface into what things are executing when Windows starts up. I had no idea I still had some of this junk starting up. The tool has a shortcut to lookup each program in Google to see what it really is all about. Check out the trial and see if it helps you. Remember to purchase it here though, because I can offer it %20 cheaper than you'll get it at their own website. Download Free TrialOr Buy NowDescription: Startup Faster! 2004 is a revolutionary tool to make your computer startup much faster than ever while protecting your hard disk from sudden failure. Even if you have a top-speed computer, you have to endure the long time when starting up Windows(all versions). Startup Faster! 2004 completely solved this problem. As you may know, Windows runs various programs at startup time, you even don't know how these programs were added to the startup list and when they were added. This caused Windows executes a load of programs(sometimes more than 30) on startup whether it's useful or useless which leads to a very long time starting up even on a fast computer. This problem has a long history since Windows 3.1, but it seemed that Microsoft won't solve this problem. Many users complaints about the long loading time and the noise of the hard disk when loading Windows, you even can't do anything when Windows is loading the "startup programs" in your "Startup" group and registry.
The reason for this problem is Windows loads all the programs at a time which means more than 20 or 30 programs running at the same time! That's why your top-level computer looks very slow and costs a lot of time to perform it.
Startup Faster! 2004 is specially designed to completely solve this problem, it used a unique technology called "SmartBoot? to speed up the startup process. Startup Faster 2004 optimizes your boot sequence by execution time and disk load. It handles the loading of Windows and made magnificent efforts! In our thousands of tests, it can speed up your loading speed by 50% to 200%!
Startup Faster! 2004 also provides a powerful control panel to let you control all about startup such as adjusting the execution sequence, enable/disable certain program, etc. You can full control your Windows startup without much computer knowledge. Even in the default configuration, it works well on most of the PCs.

Project Management Software
Many a time project I have come to need project management software. I have seen managers frustratingly spend a lot of time trying to use pure Excel to organize their staff, tasks, and hours. Its understandable though why they start this way as many of us already have Excel, and can't afford the price tag of the expensive project management suites. Here is an Excel program though that's $26 that I am sure will save you the time and money that others have lost. Its not as fancy as the expensive suites, but it looks like it has many of the critical functions. A Brief Review of a Few Web Statistics Tools
If you run a website and care about the experience your visitors have, especially if you are running a business, you need to have a statistics package. Wihout it you are running your business blind. How do you know what pages/products your visitors spend time looking at? How do you know how well your vistitors are able to navigate your site, if they are navigating it at all? The great news is that you can get this functionality for cheap even free! There are a lot of free hit counters on the internet. Frankly, you might like one of these to show your visitors how popular your site is, but other than that it isn't going to show you much. There are a lot of names too in the business of web statistics, to name a few: WebTrends, WebsideStory, ClickTracks, IndexTools, and StatCounter. This review highlights the last three. For requirements: - It had to be dirt cheap
- Come with as many features as possible in the frugal package
- Work as a JavaScript snippet. I don't want to have to get my webserver log files.
- I had to be able to find a price and purchase it on the web. Why can't I do this with WebsideStory in the year 2005?
- Shows the path each visitor makes through the web application. There are many free web trending tools that fail this requirement, and personally I think this is the most important one.
ClickTracks (www.clicktracks.com)ClickTracks was the first one I found that met these requirements. - Pros:
- Beautiful user interface when it comes to reviewing your reports. It shows a page of your website overlayed with percentages of what links your visitors are hitting.
- Cons:
- Though the $49 a month price tag is quite a bit cheaper than the thousands you would spend using something like WebTrends, it still is a little steap for a small business or blog starting out.
- The data from your website doesn't show up in your reports for 24 hours.
StatCounter (www.statcounter.com)I didn't expect much since it was listed at the bottom of a few other free hit counters and mediocre trending tools. But its good. The tool provides many of the same features of IndexTools. You don't have that same beautiful interface of ClickTracks, but the reports are still layed out well. - Pros:
- It's Free. %100. No advertising necessary on your site. Everything is invisible still.
- The data is real time.
- You can keep track of as many sites as you want.
- Cons:
- The free version only keeps track of the last 100 page loads of your site. Not bad for a small site starting up, but its $9 for 1000 page loads and $19 for 10,000.
- The visitor path report was ok. They don't have the entire set of user details in one page like IndexTools. And the pages aren't shown as Page Titles but URLs. This setting you can change, but it returns to URLs everytime you login again.
IndexTools (www.indextools.com)I was really pleased with IndexTools. They had all I need at a good price. I have liked the layout of the visitor path report the best as it shows in one place the user's path, search engine use, browser details, etc. Screen Shot. - Pros:
- The basic package is only $19.95.
- The data is real time.
- 30 day free trial, no credit card needed (ClickTracks hits you up for a credit card just to start the free trial, just like a health club, sheesh.)
- Cons:
- You can't do multiple "projects" with the base package. It can do multiple websites, but you have to view them all in the same report.
I definitely started with the StatCounter. The only problem is that 1000 page loads is not a lot, and if you want any history of things like Google search terms you need to upgrade to 10,000 page loads. For $19 you should then go with IndexTools. Now at least you know your good and cheap options.
My favorite products at safelykept.com
Here is my list of favorite products at safelykept.com. They are my favorite for various reasons, as they are: outrageously funny, incredibly strange, or a great buy. - Pamela Anderson's 1996 Calendar
Wow! 1996! This is a collector's item, right? This was the peak of her career some would say :) with a 4th year on Baywatch and when her movie came out (Warning: shameless plug to get you to buy something at Amazon. I will do it until my pockets overfloweth with money and Amazon has to shut down my account because they can't afford to keep sending me checks) Barb Wire. Funny, all these products on safelykept.mainstreetstores.com are actually sold through the company I work full time for, but I bet if I purchase this right now, I will be tracked down by some IT security watch dog, scolded, and possibly fired. Well, then I can spend more time selling this calendar, woo-hoo.
- Beautiful Women Screen-savers
Next on the list is still in the ladies category. Again, dangerous territory if I had this running at work, yet they encourage me to sell, sell, sell. Personally, 3 of these screen savers look like they are from the 80s. But Beautiful Women in Lace 2 might be more current and purchasable. :)
- Fleece Vest
This is the only piece of clothing I have to sell at safeltykept.mainstreetstores.com. If I have to tell you why buying a fleece at a software store is a bad idea, please feel free to buy as many as you can afford. Notice the description, "chest embroidered FrontRange logo with website in white and gold". Logo with website!? This was probably some promotional clothing the company was giving away to their sales team, but since no one wanted it, it ends up in my affiliate catalog. If you need some warm fleece, Amazon has some nice Columbia gear for cheaper than this.
- Deer Avenger 2
Finally a video game perfect for vegetarians. The deer fight back. A perfect gift for a vegeterian to give to his/her father who hunts. Yes, we know they are up to like Deer Avenger 13. So get it at Amazon, but we at least have this one.
- Quest for Saddam
It's never not funny to hunt for Saddam. And I'm smarter than Bush, so I gotta be able to win this game too.
- Stress Balls
Again, items with website addresses on them. I bet we were handing these out for free to our stressed out software engineers back in 2000, and then when we need to kick up the revenue someone decides to steal them off the software engineer's desks (including their swingline staplers) and sell them to the public. Brilliant. If you don't understand the swingline reference, please watch Office Space. And after you watched that, you might also appreciate the British comedy The Office.
Of course there are plenty more. I'll update this list when I get a chance. Please feel free to comment on some that you find. And I will be sure to swipe your comments and fill them with Amazon links so I get paid cash money. :) I'll still mention your name of course (as the person filling my pockets with gold).
Change order of Blogger Posts
There are a lot of complaints from Blogger users that they can't reverse the order of their posts from latest to earliest. They are stuck with seeing their new posts at the top of their list. In TypePad users have this ability, so it would be great if you can do it in Blogger. With a little Javascript DHTML mojo, we can! The steps aren't difficult at all. I'll show how here, and also check out the demo and source code behind it at http://natestest.blogspot.com/2004_12_01_natestest_archive.html to see it working in real life. If you find any mistakes, please let me know so I can keep this up to date.
It is important to understand what is being reversed. This is a client side sort of the blog posts that are already on the page. The script that I am giving sorts the "date groups" of posts as well as the posts inside the date group. You could theoretically use this type of thing to allow viewers to dynamically sort the page when they hit a sort button. Here, I just show how to add a default sort to your page.
First, we need a "container" element around all the stuff that can be sorted. Some templates already have one, but since its not there all the time, I recommend another one. Since the stuff in between the blogger tags is what is repeated, and we want this stuff sorted in a different order, we put a "div" tag around the "Blogger" tags. Like this:
<div id="sortable"> <Blogger> . . . </Blogger> </div> <!--End sortable-->
Second, put a container around each post (the stuff in between the Blogger tags), by adding another div like this:
<Blogger> <div id="postGroup<$BlogItemNumber$>"> . . . </div> <!--End postGroup--> </Blogger>
Thrid, posts are grouped by date. We need to alter the date header slightly to help us find it later. So we add an id based on the date value that comes back.
<BlogDateHeader> <h2 class="date-header" id="dateHeader<$BlogItemNumber$>"><$BlogDateHeaderDate$></h2> </BlogDateHeader>
Almost done. Just put this script underneath the sortable content and it will do the sorting for you: http://www.inventric.com/scripts/SortScript.js
Note: If you have tweaked the main display tags much inside the <Blogger> tags, you may have to make some changes, but hopefully I've given you a start.
What is this guy's issue?
Hi, I'm Nate, the store owner. I know what your thinking, "Why does this guy have this store that he doesn't want anyont to know about? Isn't that like breaking the golden rule of Business?" Well, to tell you the truth, you can make purchases from this site and you will receive them fine. But I am ridiculously addicted to creating a business and this store. I spend insane hours at this computer trying to make this site better, and where is it getting me. No where! My wife complains and complains about the obsession. She is likely just minutes away from leaving me. I am beginning to look like this guy. And soon will have to date her: Let's get serious for a second. I am a young guy trying to start a business. I am going to try and approach this though a little bit differently than everything you usually see out there. I am going to bring some honesty and humour to this. So hopefully I can make you laugh. Also hopefully I can help you make informed decisions before you need to buy anything or even start your own business. I will constantly strive here to show you how to do things on the cheap, which will involve showing you what you can find out there for free, and when necessary, where you might have to spend some money. Maybe, possibly, from me :) I hate spending money too, especially when its wasted on things I don't use. I will try and provide as many lessons as possible here on how to accomplish things free or at the very least, cheap. Stay tuned. As for the current products on the site, we do some great products and deals, but I can't lie. There is also some real junk. Like why would you buy a fleece from a software store? Notice that the platform is Small/Medium/XX-L, and not Windows/Mac. Or Turbo Math Facts. This thing is for the Mac System 7, was I even born then? And the navigation around here leaves much to be desired, but I could spend all day working on it and I am sure I still couldn't please anyone. *Sigh* But if you want a huge selection of stuff look around. It's all through Digital River, so if you don't trust me, you can trust them to not steal your credit card number. Still, note, if you buy something you will only encourage my downward spiral.
